Would you guys be mad at me if I started to blog about my nails? How about if I promised better photography and more thorough cuticle care?

(I’ll take your silence as approval)

Ugh

I don’t want to talk about it.

This is Annis, knit in an alpaca/cashmere/silk blend (delicious). Firstly, knitting laceweight on size 5.0/6.0mm needles just feels wrong. The lace pattern seems lost in the openness of the fabric. Secondly, I decided knitting the last few rows and binding off last thing at night was a good idea… 20 minutes after taking an Ambien. (I should lock up my knitting when I take a sleeping pill). My bind off felt a little tight, so I yanked on it to check it’s tension, and something, somewhere, had gone wrong, and my bind-off unravelled with a plink-plink-plink-plink as all the stitches came apart and ran back down their rows. I stared in dilated-pupil horror before making the sensible decision of placing it gently on the floor next to my bed and fixing it in the morning.

Looking at it today with fresh eyes, it was horrific… but not beyond repair. I sat down with a crochet hook and slowly, carefully, fixed every stitch one by one. Then I was able to complete my (still-too-tight) bind off.

This shawl is weird. Small, and loose-knit, and brimming with horrific nupps and dodgy yarnovers. What it needs is a good, vigorous blocking, which is going to have to wait until Christmas Eve, to determine if it is wearable. See the yarn/yardage I used here (28g yarn, really?!), and tell me, have you had any recent knitting disasters?

Early Bird Special: It’s 4:30 AM on Saturday Night Live’s notoriously hectic “Writing Night,” so naturally, cast members Taran Killam, Abby Eliot, Vanessa Bayer, Bobby Moynihan, and writers Sarah Schneider and Zach Kanin are very busy reenacting Robyn’s music video for “Call Your Girlfriend.”

[thanks hamburglr!]

This is the first thing to make me smile today, if only because I like to recreate this video myself, though I have no friends to flash torches.
